We’ve got some great promotions at the Peoria Sports Complex this season, and I wanted to keep the fans abreast of everything they have to look forward to this year.
As some of you may know, the Seattle Mariners 25-man major league roster will be leaving spring training early to begin their regular season in Japan. A squad of major league camp members who are not part of the Japan traveling party will participate in the two remaining official spring training games on March 21 and 22. However, the early departure for Japan left two open dates during the last week of spring training and during local schools’ spring breaks.
In brainstorming how to fill these dates, we came up with the Prospect Series on March 18 and 19.
The San Diego Padres and Mariners will create a roster of their up-and-coming minor league stars to play a game at the stadium with all the production and fanfare of a major league game. The best part is that we have special price of $1 for all tickets in the stadium!
Since the stadium ticket office opened at the end of January, we have had a lot of interest from patrons at the box office, so we hope this is a fun and affordable experience for everyone.
Additionally, with an open Friday date on March 15, we wanted to offer another affordable evening out option for our local fans. Details are still being worked out, but we are developing an open house atmosphere with entertainment, activities, trivia contests with prizes, unique food offerings including some local food truck favorites, interaction with the Padres and Mariners minor league players, and a movie shown on our massive left field video board where families can sit right on the field.
Other spring training developments:
- In 2018 all Major League Baseball clubs completed backstop netting projects at their regular season ballparks to better promote fan safety. In coordination with our team partners, we were happy to continue this initiative promoting fan safety and expanded our netting system to the far end our stadium dugouts helping better protect fans in these areas.
- We are always trying to present new concessions offerings each year and this year is no different. We revamped our terrace deck as an opportunity for fans to create their own freshly grilled burgers called Burgers on Deck. Fans can now craft a burger (or double burger) that fits their appetite with a multitude of toppings while promoting a fun atmosphere where fans can be creative in their burger building. Additionally, in our Right Field Cantina behind the outfield grass seating, we are proud to introduce a brand new nacho cart where fans can also pile on toppings of their choice that will certainly be a fun and delicious experience.
Here’s looking forward to an appetizing spring training!
